Every age can be enchanting, provided you live within it.”

As another Halloween rolls by, I take time to pause and reflect on this special holiday. To me, every day is an occasion to play and experiment with transformation. What keeps me excited is being able to channel a certain characteristic and infuse that with my personal style. To repurpose is to make the old fresh again, and to me that’s magic.

I was recently reminded by a dear friend of the Oscar Wilde quote, “Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth.” This poses an interesting topic during a holiday which encourages us to wear masks. Perhaps masks support, providing a protective barrier so we can drop all inhibitions and allow our true spirits to shine. Or perhaps we hide behind them. Whichever you relate to more, there’s no denying that we’re all a little liberated when we play dress up.

We all live our lives differently by choice. My choice is to encourage others to be comfortable with who they are. Strangely enough I find comfort in taking on different aspects of my life experiences. Every person, place and conversation I come across ultimately become a part of me and my next phase. It’s always fun to see where I’m at come October when the ‘transformation spotlight’s’ on and everyone’s watching.

I learned something about myself from this holiday: I don’t plan. It wasn’t until a few days before Halloween that I came up with my costume (same with last year). I never go out of my way to buy anything, nor do I force a costume. I simply work with what’s presented and currently influencing me. This year I’d been heavily influenced by Paris. It seemed everywhere I turned, all roads led to Paris. Last month I had also become interested in learning more about Old Hollywood and it’s fashion icons.

A week before Halloween I attended a beauty event in Downtown. As I got ready I thought my hair was naturally falling into the classic Bardot bouffant. I went with it as I tied in a black ribbon. Strangely enough I had never seen one of her films nor had I begun to learn much about her. Regardless, I was undoubtedly influenced by her beauty from day one as I’ve been known to rock an occasional bow or two.

At the event they had a fashion illustrator doing beauty portraiture’s. That’s when it all clicked. As I sat down with the artist, Regina, she began to fluidly painted out the shape of my bow. Then she proceeded to the soft volume of my hair. She filled in the waves of my ruffled, off-the-shoulder top, (which I now know is referred to as a Bardot top), added some thick cat-eyed liner and two pillowy pink lips. She looks up at me for the final touches and says, you look very Parisian tonight. In that moment I realized I was channeling Brigitte and the DJ cued up his music from a brief pause. His choice? French music (I kid you not).

And so it was decided…

Ms. Bardot it was.

Halloween has and will always be one of my favorite holidays ~ for any day which encourages you to embrace whoever or whatever you wish (with zero judgement) is a symbol for pure freedom.

This past weekend marked the official first day of Spring. My Saturday was off to an overcast start but I refused to let it break my sunny spirit. I think such days serve as a reminder to always seek the silver lining. We often forget that the sun has in fact not deserted us, it’s simply hidden, waiting to see if we’ll create our own happiness. I turned on my Tropical House playlist, set my hair in rollers and danced about my room hoping my spirits might lift the clouds. Later that afternoon I would be cruising to Beverly Hills for the Kimora Lee Simmons 2016 Spring Preview hosted by Blogger Babes

mannequin, beverly hills, fashion, blogger,

This wasn’t my first Beverly Hills rendezvous, however it was my first blogger event in the fancy hood. Questions loomed in my mind similar to that of the overcast sky that hung above. Would I be accepted? How would the other women hold themselves? Would I feel comfortable? With all the uncertainties clouding my judgement, I decided it was best to wipe the slate clean and allow the thoughts to pass by without attachment. Ironically the moment I did this the sun popped out from behind the clouds and it was a beautiful Spring day. Now all I had to focus on was bringing the best energy I could to the room I was about to enter. I walked up Beverly and made my way into the store with assurance; I was exactly where I belonged at that moment in time.

I clearly had nothing to worry about. I was instantly reminded of this the moment I was welcomed with a glass of champagne and a familiar face. Ashley greeted me with a friendly hug and a smile and all was well. The room was bright and welcoming. The decor was ultra-femme, minimalist and chic with rose gold accents. There was a supportive energy in the room that left me feeling comfortable and peaceful. I felt as though I could be myself without the need to promote myself.

The collection was simple, beautifully crafted and luxurious. Primarily black and white looks with a nice balance of mixed mediums such as silk, leather and lace. Ash and I circumnavigated the store checking out the pieces, and a black and white leather moto jacket caught my eye. It had an air of crazy, sexy, cool with its yin-yang appeal and slightly unexpected color-blocked sleeves.

I was pleased to find all the women to be very open, warm and excited to meet one another. There was a genuine glow that poured from the room and it wasn’t the sunshine or bubbly. The thing that I loved most about the event was honestly the women! Don’t get me wrong, I loved the clothes, but this event was beautifully crafted around the clothes and elevated by the people in the room. The energy was undeniable.

I met other bloggers who were also chasing their dreams and equally desired to make a difference in the lives of others. The best part was there wasn’t a hint of competition in the room, which was refreshing. Two women I hit it off with were Sasha Frank and Ripsime Paronikyan. Both were on a similar mission to love and accept their natural beauty and encourage others to do the same. I even met a quick witted woman named Cherry who loved my sock/outfit coordination and I loved her humor.

All in all, the KLS x Blogger Babes event hit the mark on many levels. There was that Beverly Hills class, which played as the backdrop for the celebration of entrepreneurial women. It exceeded my expectations in terms of a social gathering because I clearly decided not to form any expectations. By wiping the slate clean, I experienced an amazing introduction into the world of blogger events. It also helped me see that regardless of profession, status, follower count or appearances, we’re all here to sing individual songs in our own beautiful tone. It served as a reminder that authenticity is far from dead, it’s just getting started.

As I entered the main foyer of the newly renovated GUCCI store of Beverly Hills, (champagne flute in hand) something felt mildly ironic as Lorde dreamingly purred in the background “And we’ll never be Royals.” Unfortunately there were no tigers on a gold leash in sight, yet this was nothing shy of a fantasy. From the moment I arrived I was ushered and welcomed in with the Royal treatment.

After taking in the first floor with excited eyes, Christian, a Gucci employee approached and offered to chauffeur me to the second floor. The suspense built with each stride I took as I made my way up the grand marble steps trimmed in glistening gold. Once we made it to the top I was breathless and not because of the climb (c’mon this girl puts the Master in StairMaster). This was a different kind of breathlessness. The kind where you are taken aback by the sight of sophisticated beauty and refinement.

We made a quick once around before landing at the main destination, the Fall 2014 Ready-to-Wear Collection. At that moment, it felt as though the room was reeling me in with magnetic force and the clothes were enticing me to come closer. Pastels Hues + Tailored Jackets= Recipe for a Maverick Takeover. Of course I admire an innovative take on the classic trench coat, who wouldn’t? After that baby was on it was game over. James Tuttle, another lovely associate did not hesitate as he slipped jacket after jacket off the hanger and onto my frame. I felt like a little girl again, playing house and dress up with my Barbies, only this time I was the doll and this was reality.
